History of International Civil Aviation Day
In 1944, the International Civil Aviation Organization was established to secure international cooperation and uniformity in civil aviation affairs. In 1994, the International Civil Aviation Organization established the International Civil Aviation Day to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Convention on International Civil Aviation.
In 1996, the United Nation General Assembly proclaimed the 7th December as International Civil Aviation Day, by an ICAO vision and with the Canadian Government’s help. The general assembly urged Government and non-government and organizations to celebrate the day. International Civil Aviation Day aims to generate the implements global awareness of the importance of international civil aviation in the social and economic development of the world. The day memorializes the ICAO’s role in promoting the preservation, efficiency, and regularity of international air transport.
